ForeFlight FSX Integration for Training

Post by Hayden Young »

Finally got myself an iPad for Christmas after having my annoyingly slow Verizon Ellipses fail not once, not twice, but three times!

I have to say ForeFlight is much better than Garmin Pilot. I've already flown about 15 hours with it, but still wanted to do a bit more training with it. This has reminded me how valuable FSX can be in combination with advanced aircraft, the tools you use in the cockpit, and PilotEdge. Flying here can be nearly as valuable as flying in the plane if you keep yourself focused. The Chief Instructor at my school is already more that sold so hopefully he can make the numbers work once our degree program is set up. Thanks for the service guys!

So far the only thing I've had an issue with is the traffic and the predicted track keeps vanishing. No idea why that is.

Now I just need to decide if I'm going to drop $900 on a Stratus or not.....

For what it is worth. Getting the Stratus was the best $900 I have spent. If your like me and rent and do not have in cockpit ADSB weather and traffic (if the stars align or you have a plane with ADS-B out), this gives you a great way to have everything you need on the iPad. I cannot say it saved my life or anything but I know I have changed my destination twice and turned around and went back home once due to having updated weather in the cockpit.

Also the recoded flight information it keeps allows you to pull all the stats and look at your flight in total on something like CloudAhoy or google earth. And yes it is even nice enough to highlight mistakes. :).

Love my Stratus. Well worth the money. Such a great addition to expand Foreflight's capability. And a real comfort having a backup AI.

I have had weather and traffic in the Cirrus and Diamonds I've been flying and thats whats kept me from getting it. However I'm loosing that very soon when I go back to Cessnas for time building  and then into the Duchess. I will probably get one when funds allow here. Definitely before convective season kicks off. Maybe I'll get lucky and they will go on sale after Christmas.

We just had a Flightstream 210 installed in the Archer - basically the capabilities of a stratus built into the plane, along with the ability to sync flight plan information between the iPad and the panel. Super handy to push a complicated flight plan from ForeFlight over to the 430s.

Full ADS weather/traffic/etc along with an AHARS for synthetic vision in FF. Pretty cool stuff.
