“At Signature”

Post by CaptainMD »

When calling ground for taxi, I sometimes hear a pilot refer to their position as “at signature” instead of them saying for example “at the general aviation hangar” or “gate 9”.

What does “at signature” mean?

Thanks!

Signature is the name of a large chain of FBOs.

Thanks! I assumed it meant pick up my electronic radar signature, but couldn’t imagine that ATC would be OK with that. I don’t think I’ve ever come across Signature FBOs in my flight sim journey. Hope to do so in real life someday!

At most airports I don't know the difference. But at some airports XP11 has Atlantic and Signature FBOs listed as spawn locations. I'll typically use one of those and use that as my location since it adds a touch of realism.

In particular, John Wayne (KSNA) has two Signature locations. If you have payware airports like LVFR KSNA the Signature FBO is very prominent. I always call "Bonanza 522PM, Signature East with the info...".

Most of us use the FBO names for added realism. Instead of saying your location is the west GA ramp you could be more precise and state which FBO you are closer to. FBO's are for GA and small Corporate jets. I find this below website very helpful in finding the current FBO'S. I just copy and paste this address but change out the Airport ICAO, The website near the bottom of the page shows a map with red dots for the different FBO'S.

Here is what i would use to look up the FBO'S at Albuquerque for example.

Also, for those who use ForeFlight, the app offers an option to enable FBO depictions on top of airport diagrams as well.

GPB500's donationware updated the FBOs, not sure about other scenery for KSNA.

Yes sir, I stand corrected, thanks. Does ACI only operate the east side location? Did they close the west side?

I just say what ramp I'm on with a direction... I don't think atc knows all the fbos...

I'll say "NW parking with atis" Or "East of Ry xx"
