[Feb 16 12p-3pm PST] EVENT: Nobody Goes to Fresno 2!
We're pleased to announce the LONG awaited return of PilotEdge-sanctioned monthly fly-in events, kicking off with the sequel of "Nobody Goes to Fresno!" And yes, you guessed it, we're STILL not going to Fresno, because, as we all know from watching Airplane, nobody goes to Fresno.
Jets are cordially invited to fly from LAS->LAX->SAN while pistons fly from SBA->CRQ->SNA. Turboprops can fly either set of legs. Plan to pick up clearances no earlier than 12pm PDT. Try to depart during the first 30 minutes of the event.
EDIT: VFR and IFR operations are welcome!
In an effort to minimize radio congestion, Special Air Traffic Procedures will be in effect for the event:
- When calling for your IFR clearance, state your callsign and ATIS code only, ie. "Las Vegas Clearance, DAL1234, Mike."
- When reading back your IFR clearance, if the clearance is essentially as filed, then readback the squawk only unless you have a specific question or need clarification
- When approaching the departure runway, monitor tower, do not call for departure. Aircraft will assume to be ready for takeoff upon reaching the runway. Pistons should complete runups on the ramp or while holding in the departure line
- CAT & I Rating attempts may be suspended during the event depending on controller workload
- ATC staffing will ramp up ~5 minutes prior to the event window, do not call for IFR clearance or taxi prior to start of event window.

Question, do you need to have the SoCal subscription package or can people with a US West subscription join?
Thanks
Bob
Thanks

Will you have extra ATC staff? The event time is normally already busy and your regular staffing is typically not sufficient to handle more than 20 pilots per ATC person.

The flight is entirely contained with ZLA, so a ZLA subscription is required. The next event will be WUS-centric (they will alternate each month).rtedgar wrote:Question, do you need to have the SoCal subscription package or can people with a US West subscription join?

Yes, there will be extra staffing, that is the determining factor when structuring these events.maxmoe wrote:Will you have extra ATC staff? The event time is normally already busy and your regular staffing is typically not sufficient to handle more than 20 pilots per ATC person.

How does the LAX transition work for IFR filing?
Do we file two IFR's at LAS or land at LAX, park and then file a new IFR for SAN?

The system isn't setup for multiple flight plans. Only the most recently filed flight plan will show up. File IFR from LAS-LAX and then refile on the ground in LAX.seajunk wrote:How does the LAX transition work for IFR filing?

Is this event for IFR traffic only? Or VFR ok too? IFR clearances are listed above so just clarifying.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Yes, VFR is welcome. IFR requires a clearance and a route to be filed, that is why we provide all the IFR routing information. That's not meant to imply that the event is IFR-only (that would be needlessly exclusive and wouldn't model any specific real world situation)...it's just that there isn't much to say, other than "VFR is welcome, too."

So that there is no misunderstanding, the tower will still issue a takeoff clearance for each plane, won't it?When approaching the departure runway, monitor tower, do not call for departure. Aircraft will assume to be ready for takeoff upon reaching the runway.
