I'm brand new to x plane and pilot edge.
Just passed my V-1
The controller said in the future to change my tail number/ ID as It ends in
Papa Oscar ( or something)
And the Oscar could be confusing in the future.
Do I then just choose a random identification number?

Changing X plane 172's tail number?
Re: Changing X plane 172's tail number?
Mike,
It can't be totally random. It has to follow a few rules. For a U.S. tail number it must start with the letter "N" and then as follows: (from Wiki)
An N-number may only consist of one to five characters, must start with a digit other than zero, and cannot end in a run of more than two letters. In addition, N-numbers may not contain the letters I or O, due to their similarities with the numerals 1 and 0. The following are the combinations that could be used:
N1 to N99 — Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) internal use only
N1A to N9Z
N1AA to N9ZZ
N10A to N99Z
N10AA to N99ZZ
N100 to N999
N100A to N999Z
N100AA to N999ZZ
N1000 to N9999
N1000A to N9999Z
N10000 to N99999

I suggest:
(Basically what Rod just said)
https://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificat ... g_nnumber/
And this place has an "N-Number Generator" for you that will ensure compliance. It also has many other uses for PilotEdge:

famous/infamous tail numbers
If you looking for other "interesting" ideas of tail numbers to use check out:

Because I have been involved in sooooo many virtual accidents, I tend to look for tail numbers that are the subject of an NTSB report.

This is kind of funny, but also kind of dark.wmburns wrote:Because I have been involved in sooooo many virtual accidents, I tend to look for tail numbers that are the subject of an NTSB report.
Personally, I just find a random plane of the same make and model and use it's tail number.
