When R/L interfers

Post by JMieras »

Hello,
Is there a standard protocol for having to suddenly log out due to R/L? Im sure its been asked before, so id be happy with a link to a post or other resource with advice of 1) short AFKs when NOT under radar services, but still logged in. 2) short afks when under radar service (Im guessing no, but asking anyway for clarity) 3) how to terminate the session (what radio call to make, if any, to suddenly/quickly log out, end the session?

Thanks

1) if you're not receiving any radar services and you're in Class E/G airspace, feel free to disconnect or step away at will. There's nobody to tell.

2) if you're receiving radar service, just advise the controller you need to step away with an estimate of when you'll be back. They'll coordinate as needed. This is pretty common.

3) if you're receiving radar service and you need to end the session, you can disconnect at will, or preferably, let the controller know you're disconnecting (no reason needed). This way, they know you're not going to pop back a few seconds later.
